Tracey Weil co-founded Tales2Go with her husband, William, as a way to entertain and educate their kids. Tales2Go gives educators and parents instant and unlimited access to thousands of name-brand audiobooks and stories from leading publishers and storytellers to play on Apple mobile devices in classrooms and beyond, all for one low annual price.
1. What activities do your kids do throughout the year?
Some days I wonder what activities we don’t do! We’re a pretty active family, but I try to strike a balance between all their school and afterschool activities and some unstructured downtime to just simply play, together, with friends or their new puppy. Throughout the year, all three love to play soccer, swim, hike and bike and, of course, each of them has their individual interests like piano, diving, rock climbing and tennis.
2. How do you usually choose your activity provider? (word of mouth, look online, etc)
First hand recommendations from other moms rank very high on my list. And, if our kids are friends and participate together, all the better, especially if we can carpool. However, I will search online to check out all the options or look for new activities. I do searches particularly at the start of a new interest or activity.
3. How many kids do you have? And how do you keep track of everyone’s activities?
Last time I checked there were three munchkins running my household. I have an 11 year-old boy, and two girls – 10 and 8 – plus a 1-year-old yellow lab puppy. I keep track of everyone’s activities on iCal, which I typically access on the go from my iPhone. One trick that is very helpful is, with each scheduled activity, I enter a couple reminders – which pings me the day before and again an hour before (to be sure we’re not late).
4. Which activity has given your child (or all of them) the biggest boost in confidence?
No one ever tells you that your kids will not be cookie cutter images of you or of each other…and each of my children is completely different. My son is high energy and enjoys sports – loves playing soccer, lacrosse, basketball, rock climbing, and tennis. But it was just this year he found his calling when he went out for Cross Country and Track and Field teams that he felt the most pride and accomplishment.
For my oldest daughter, she has always expressed an interest in music and singing. And her solo at school, singing Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” gave her a big confidence boost. Now I need to find some singing lessons for her.
My youngest has felt great accomplishment with her reading. She was a struggling reader at first. But, with lots of reading together with her, and lots of listening to Tales2Go, and reading along with Tales2Go, she now reads like a champ.
5. How has/will Activity Rocket helped you find activities/camps? Plan your calendar? Get ratings/reviews?
I’m eager to explore sports activities, performing arts programs, and swim programs on Activity Rocket for our after school activities this Fall and Winter. I like the search functionality to be able to browse by activity provider, by proximity, by age and even by tuition level. And I love that Activity Rocket has everything all in one convenient place. I think busy families need to use technology to help simplify their lives where it matters most. And that is the main reason why I started Tales2Go. Because we’re driving around so much between all these activities and events, I wanted a way to capture that travel time in a way that’s meaningful and educational. Tales2Go makes playing audiobooks simple, so they are learning on the go. Activity Rocket is another example. No one has time to use traditional media to research the boggling array of options for kids’ activities. That’s why activity Rocket makes so much sense and saves so much time.
