Cooking with Kids by Nicole: Dessert Sushi? YES MOM!!
My husband and I love going out to get sushi and we encourage our kids to try everything. No guarantees it will win them over but trying is the first step. So, after using the chopsticks for just about everything you can imagine we were able to convince our children to try a bite of my spicy tuna roll. My daughter & sous chef, Sophia, is such a foodie at heart and is always willing to give it a whirl. Well, this was not her cup of tea. However, she loved the chopsticks, the atmosphere and the overall feeling of being an adult ‘eating’ sushi.
This sushi night out reminded me of a dessert that I had made in the past for an Under the Sea themed party. So, this week we went to the store, picked up simple supplies and concocted our own version of kid-approved sushi. This is an easy activity that doesn’t require baking and will leave your own little sushi naysayers asking for more.
-Dried Fruits/Gummy candies
-Cut the mini donuts in half to create a semi-circle
-Place a gummy fish on top of the donut
-Roll out the fruit roll-up, cut into small strips and wrap the fruit roll up strip around the donut and fish to secure them together.
Steps for Twinkie Sushi:
-Once the outside of the snack cake is not so dense, cut into one inch pieces
-Roll out the fruit roll-up, cut into small strips and wrap the fruit roll up strip around the Twinkie pieces
-Garnish with dried fruits or gummy candies in the cream filling
