How Do They Do It? Crafty Mom and Small Business Owner, Nicolle Spitulnik
Like many moms, Nicolle wanted her son’s first birthday party to be just perfect. As she describes on her website, LibbyLanePress.com, she “scoured the internet for the perfect invitation and inspirational party ideas.” Her search brought her to Etsy where she discovered an entirely new world of designers, and decided to start on her own. Not quite a year old, LibbyLanePress.com is gaining recognition as a creative place to find party ideas, stationary, decor, and other necessities. Most recently Nicolle was featured on the Hostess with the Mostess website.
Nicolle lives in Montgomery County, MD with her husband and two young children, Sophia and Cole. We recently caught up with Nicolle and asked her HOW does she do it when it comes to activity planning for her family.
1. What activities does your child (children) do throughout the year?
My children are only 1 and 3, however we have been involved in activities since my oldest was 6 months. Throughout the year my children are involved in ballet, swim lessons, My Gym classes and music class. I like to have a routine in place and I think my kids are following in my footsteps. Every morning they ask where we are off to for that day.
2. How do you usually choose your activity provider?
I have been fortunate to meet moms along the way and we tend to share and refer activities to one another. So, I would have to say word of mouth and social media have been my primary means of learning about and choosing new activities for my children.
3. How do you keep track of your child’s activities? What is the biggest challenge when it comes to activity planning?
I still use paper and pencil to keep track of my daily activities. I have a Life Planner by Erin Condren that I use daily. I have all of my children’s activities and my appointments organized by month, then week. I must say I do get a bit concerned about what would happen if I misplaced the treasured planner! I really need to start using the calendar and alerts on my iphone since I sync it to my computer. As crazy as it sounds, I adore technology and it drives my own personal business, however I cannot part with the written planner…yet.
4. Which activity has given your child (or all of them) the biggest boost in confidence?
My daughter started ballet in the fall and has grown tremendously over the past 8 months. She was reserved and timid in the beginning and as her confidence grew so did her love for going to ballet class every Saturday morning. I attribute this not only to the teacher’s extensive dance background, but also her true love for the girls and their ability to work in a group.
5. What is your favorite Activity Rocket feature? (search, calendaring, ratings/reviews, blogs, coupons – whichever one strikes you)
I love reading the blog and my favorite section is the Expert’s Corner. I think so many parents feel alone when trying to determine why something is happening or how to deal with certain scenarios involving their children. Expert’s Corner offers valuable information from professionals and tools to help deal with children in the most effective and loving manner. Being a former educator, I also particularly like the tips and activities to help prepare children for their first years of school.
