Hands On Science partners with school communities to spark children's interest in science and mathematics with playful, inquiry based science enrichment available to children Pre-K through 5th grade. HOS defines science in the broadest terms and believes that "science" is all around us in everything that we do. The program encourages children to ask questions, conduct experiments, and learn how science is involved in their daily lives. Children use scientific processes including observation, comparison, prediction, and measurement in every class.
HOS believes that children, like many of us, learn best by doing. Every class incorporates hands-on activities for each child. All children participate in every activity and take home their materials for display, discussion, and recognition.
The Hands On Science program originated in Montgomery County in 1980 by founder Phyllis Katz, and in 1981 came under the auspices of the Montgomery County Council of PTA's non-profit arm Educational Programs Inc.
